Yes, I’m an old fart – what’s wrong with these kids today

“It’s official” I said “were old fogies”.

Sitting back in my chair at Carrabba’s Italian Grill (one of our usual Lexington KY hangouts) with my business associate and bud, Mike of Fantasys, as we were talking about this new generation. You know you’re getting old when you start saying things like “what’s wrong with kids today” and “in my day we knew better“.

Recently Mike stated in his blog for Fantasys Escort Service a new quasi policy of “I’ve decided to go back to working more with the “mature women”. It’s always been against my better judgment to search out the “young-ins” because like it or not-they are notoriously UNRELIABLE and high maintenance. Hate the hell outta that! ”

Honest to god, we’re the ONLY Agency that I’ve ever seen that has real 18-20 year old girls and while they are easy on the eyes-they are a bitch and a half to work with. I’ll keep a few coming and going for new faces but I simply am not willing to keep up the pace to have them around. Wears me out.”

You would be amazed the number of applications I get from young women who don’t seem to get the fact our employment application is a “JOB APPLICATION“! Granted not everyone is a spelling bee champ however you would think proper use of English would be a given. Sad to say it is not uncommon for me to receive applications, which read like a teenagers Myspace page. Which incidentally it clearly states on the form the following: “Applications without photos, without a valid (working) e-mail address will NOT be given priority and probably ignored. ” I can count on about 20% of applications not having attached photos, the smart one’s put in the comments “I don’t have photos” which is acceptable. On several occasions I’ve had applicants literally tell me please go to my Myspace page to see my photo’s.

Sorry princess obviously you don’t take this seriously enough which means you’re not good enough to work with me.

Out of 20 applications a month I may invite 5 to give me a call. Of those five, four may do so and three will make it to the interview. This is usually where the fun begins. Maybe it was just my parents or my social class however when did they stop teaching young women how to be little ladies? You don’t come to a job interview in jeans (with holes) and a t-shirt? Those who have worn skirts felt flip flops were an acceptable fashion accessory.

In the last few years Mike and I have found we’re spending more and more time teaching young women about the art and craft of femininity as part of their overall job training. In a way it’s rather disturbing when I have to show females how to get out of a car in a skirt, the proper way a lady bends over to pick up an item, table manners, how to walk in 3 inch spiked heels and the in and out’s of various feminine hygiene product uses. All this and I’m straight too. Is it just me or are mothers no longer teaching their daughters what I always thought were the basics? Now before you say, well it’s social class, don’t. I’m seeing this trend across all eco-social classes.

It is in the nature of all human beings to be selfish however has anyone else noticed many of this latest generation are a bunch of self obsessed, mambi-pambi, cry babies with a huge entitlement complex (expect things to just be handed to them) and no sense of responsibility what so ever. Gee did mommy and daddy not give you any chores and hold you accountable for not doing them? This is what happens when you wipe asses for too long instead of making them do it for themselves. What was it JFK said “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country“. For those of you who are teachers, you have my support and sympathy because I know you’re not getting it from many of the parents. It seems the teaching of personal accountability and consequences in the home is perhaps becoming passé. But then what do we expect we live in a consumer-based society where there is a pill for every ill and buying “things” can fill a spiritual void. Now days everyone is a victim, therefore in our litigious society you can sue for the slightest self perceived wrong. What was it William Shakespeare’s Henry the VI {Act IV, Scene II} said “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers“. Nice idea, but then that would kill off 40% of my client base.

Yes, folks maybe I am getting old? True but is it just me or does anyone else out there share the same views or possibly seeing the same things I am?
